Wits Journalism is a programme for aspirant and working journalists.

We offer two streams of the BA Honours programme: one for career-entry students, and one for mid-career journalists.

- A career-entry route for graduates who want to become journalists: Students will find the course a rich mix of practical and academic training, designed to give them both the skills they need to operate in a newsroom.

- A mid-career route for working journalists who wish to develop their skills and knowledge: Mid-career journalists will find opportunities to upgrade their skills, and branch into new areas.

We also offer a Masters option with specialisations in financial, investigative journalism, radio, writing, development journalism and media and politics. Limited places are available for Phd candidates.

Submit your application for any of the above programmes by September 30, 2020.

MARK THE DATE: Regional African Journalism Roundtable, September 9

Within the advent of COVID-19 pandemic, media coverage has played a crucial role across the globe in providing practical and credible information while influencing perceptions on the spreading of the coronavirus. Mass media channels and social media have become the primary sources of information, while also being used as sources for fake news and disinformation.

Fake news and disinformation through social media have contributed to discrimination and xenophobia affecting Africans in China and Chinese in Africa. Internally among nations in the continent, the stigma towards infected and affected persons has paved the way for discrimination, fear, confusion and division within communities.

Joining the Africa-China Reporting Project to discuss the impact of these issues across Africa with journalists from different regions on the continent.
