iAfrica is seeking a talented and self-driven intern based in Johannesburg.

Time Commitment:

The news editing intern will work 4 hours per day, Monday – Friday, and 2 hours on Saturday each week.

Start immediately, through December 31, 2019

Responsibilities:

The news editing intern will start by reading headlines of a wide range of global publications to determine what the most important news stories have been in the last twenty four hours.  From there, the intern will select ten stories, and write a total of 10 original news summaries of about 50-75 words.  The summaries should include a mixture of South African news, world news, business, lifestyle and sport depending on the important news of the day.  Local news will override other categories when necessary.

After the news editing intern selects the stories, s/he will summarize each one using multiple sources so as to not plagiarize from any one source. Each summary should cite 2-3 sources. The model for writing the five summaries is similar to TheWeek.com’s 5 Things

The summaries should be balanced in terms of editorial view, and should be written in a pithy, punchy style so that the reader feels as though they have all the information they need without going to the source.

The news editing intern will publish all summaries and publish other newsworthy content from designated sources to the website at iafrica.com each day, Monday – Saturday.

The news editing intern will report to the Chief Operating Officer.  This internship will pay R4,000 per month.
