The Special Award recognises an independent media organisation based in a developing country using media to address social, cultural, political and economic issues.

The Award seeks to recognise and encourage outstanding reporting that informs the public, provides an outlet for local people’s voices, creates a space for critical information and holds those in power to account.

To enter the 2016 Special Award, please download and complete the entry form on our website. Completed entry forms must be sent to us by the final deadline of 4th February. There is no entry fee for the Special Award.

Last year’s winner was Welad ElBalad, based in Egypt.
