DEPARTMENT 947 Programming  REPORT TO 947 Station Manager
TITLE 947 Programming Manager


  • A Relevent tertiary qualification  
  • Good knowledge of South African radio market, music radio format
  • Minimum 5 years Management experience in Commercial Music Radio, music programming and talent management experience


·        Strong editorial judgement across all areas of content

·        Senior level digital & social media experience

·        Strong leadership skills

·        Strong drive that evolves around innovation, creativity and execution excellence

·        Great management skills that balance the workflow between the creative and commercial teams

·        Experience and understanding of managing budgets

·        Experience in creating, publishing and interpreting radio audience measurement

·        Ability to operate in a demanding creative and analytical environment

·         Have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how content works on different streaming and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram etc.)

  ·        Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written presentations and video formats.

·        Strong administration skills and reporting ability

·        Exceed at building and maintaining relationships, internally and externally

·        A team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide on & off air talent

·        Exceptional communication skills

·        Computer literate, understand basic workings of the studio and the transmission and signal.




On-air direction to ensure delivery 

  • Audience engagement
  • Partner with radio consultants to ensure growth in 947’s target audience
  • Ensure 947 brand positioning is reflected across all shows
  • Work primarily with producers and on air talent to ensure tight programming in line with our strategy
  • Run daily calendar programming meetings to ensure programming team is fully briefed on station activities
  • Regular feedback sessions with hosts and producers through air checks, meetings and informally
  • Improvement in the sound of the station


Assist with Development of talent

  • Work with the Station Manager to ensure a succession plan is in place for key talent both On-Air, producers and admin staff.
  • Identifying skills, grooming and mentoring talent.
  • Always be on the lookout for new talent and develop a talent bank.


  Develop creative solutions for clients

  • Responsible for general liaison between 947 programming and Sales
  • Together with the CS team, come up with concepts that fit the 947 brand
  • Support CS by attending internal and external client briefings and present proposals to clients
  • Be able to address all CS queries in relation to 947 properties
  • Ensure flawless implementation of sold campaigns by 947 programming team including 947 on-air talent


Explore for digital opportunities

·         Work closely with the Digital Producers and Digital Content Editors to improve and deepen our relationship with the listener



  • Facilitate communication and interdependence with 947 programming as well as between departments.


Contribute to Strategic Planning

·         Take part in annual strategy discussions and assist on facilitating development of annual strategy for 947
