Fixed Term contract period: 1 May 2016 – 1 May 2017
Responsibilities:
  • Conceptual editing of articles (rewriting, correct errors in punctuation, spelling and syntax)
  • Supervise a diverse group of junior editors and staff writers
  • Mentor young writing & blogging talent for This Is Africa
  • Write engaging content for TIA (on a weekly basis)
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in journalism, communications or language studies
  • Minimum of five years’ journalistic and newsroom production experience (across the African continent)
  • Have excellent and feature writing, as well as editing, subbing and proofing skills
  • Experience with digital publishing
  • A thorough understanding of global geopolitics and issues affecting the African continent
  • A good understanding of the legalities affecting journalism and blogging on the continent
  • Proven experience in mentorship and coaching young writers
  • Ability to commission and create quality and engaging content for TIA
  • Fully computer literate, including the use of all social media applications
  • A flair for writing and rewriting copy to the highest standard
  • Experience in using word press and web analytics
  • Travel experience in Africa and beyond

Selected duty stations for the role: Nairobi, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Harare, Lagos and Accra
Monthly remuneration (gross) based on a 24 hours per week contract: $800- $1500
