Please note: This Student Fellowship is only for students studying at a South African university.

We have fully-funded places for about 20 South African journalism students.

At AIJC2018 there will be opportunities to hear some of the best investigative journalists in Africa talking about their stories and sharing their skills. We have invited a number of international speakers, and we will provide courses in a range of skills important for all graduating journalists. Further, we will be running a student’s newsroom during the conference, where they will do online and social media coverage, and contribute to our conference edition of the campus newspaper, Vuvuzela under the supervision of tutors.

Only students currently in their final year of an undergraduate journalism degree, honours or master’s degree in journalism are eligible to apply for a bursary to attend the conference.

The bursary covers your travel costs to the conference and return; your hotel accommodation in Johannesburg – at The Wedgewood B&B in Melville (www.thewedgwood.com),
meals, conference fees and ground transport to and from the conference.

To apply for a place, send your CV and a covering note from your head of department or equivalent, and a motivation of not more than 500 words to conference@journalism.co.za by Friday 31st August 2018. All applications will be acknowledged on receipt and a final decision on places will be made by Friday 14th September 2018.
