The Supreme Court of Appeal has ruled that Sunday newspaper City Press must pay COPE President Terror Lekota and Kwazulu-Natal premier Sibusiso Ndebele R100 000 each in defamation damages, according to a report on iol.co.za.

The court dismissed an appeal by City Press against an award of damages to Lekota and Ndebele by the High Court in Johannesburg.

The claim relates to an article that was published in City Press on August 7 2005, which stated in its headline "ANC top brass spied on one another – apartheid agent".

In the article it was said that Lekota and Ndebele had supplied confidential information to the agent who was purporting to be a journalist researching liberation theology.
