The objective of this position is to ensure that the tone, style and layout of final copy matches the publication’s house style and suits the target market. The Sub-Editor should fact-check and verify stories to ensure they are accurate, adhere to copyright laws, are not libellous or go against the publication’s policy; assist the Managing Editor in managing the flow of stories; edit copy, liaise with reporters or journalists to clarify facts and details about a story; compile routine information, such as tables of sports results or financial data.
The candidate should be in late 20s or early 30s, have experience in mainstream print media, and also be able to work on content for the website. He/she should be able to work well under pressure, and have a good sense of politics, economy, business and sport and able be able to write stories as and when needed. A good attitude necessary to working well with a pan-African team vital.
