The ANC has condemned reports published by Independent Newspapers concerning President Kgalema Motlanthe's "personal matters", writes Fiona Forde in The Star.
This week, The Sunday Independent revealed the identities of two women believed to be having a relationship with Motlanthe.
One is allegedly carrying his child.
In The Star on Monday, Motlanthe's wife said she was not aware of the alleged extra-marital affairs.
The stories came after a months-long investigation into the identity of the first spouse after the Presidency refused to divulge information about her.
On Tuesday the ANC said the "reports violate the right of all citizens to have their privacy and dignity respected", adding that "the reports are unwarranted and unjustified".
Days earlier, spokesperson Carl Niehaus dismissed the stories as a smear campaign to discredit the president in the run-up to the elections.
The ANC Youth League also condemned the reports, describing them as "irritating and disgusting".
