The Journalism Department in the School of Literature, Language and Media invites applications for appointment to the full time position of Project Co-ordinator of the Wits Justice Project (WJP).  The WJP explores new notions of journalism and social responsibility by bringing together a combination of investigative reporting, education, law, and advocacy..

Position: Project Coordinator Wits Justice Project 100% (AD09)

Grant funded, fixed term position: 01 January 2017 to 31 December 2019

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree preferably in relevant fields such as journalism or law
  • Understanding of the media and/or law an advantage
  • Leadership experience in NGO sector
  • Editing, sub-editing and media production skills an advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make strategic and operational decisions
  • Ability to manage an independent-minded team through consensus and cooperation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop a high-performance team, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Partnership and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed

This person is responsible for:

  • Strategic direction, planning, decision-making and implementation
  • Donor relations and fundraising
  • Advocacy and stakeholder relations
  • Project planning, budgeting, management and monitoring
  • Overseeing editorial production
