This course will plunge students into the world of news and familiarise them with its basic concepts. You will learn what news is and what journalism involves. You will examine issues specific to Communications, and its relationship to journalism. This course will be particularly useful for corporate, NGO and government communicators who wish to familiarse themselves with the world of news and newsrooms.
You will learn the basic essentials for the writing and gathering of news in South Africa. Students will be introduced to the skills of researching and interviewing, the processing of complex information.
This is essentially a practical course. Students will be expected to produce real stories – on which they will be given mentoring and feedback. You will learn through experience, through group discussion and role-playing. It is a rich course that will build on the writing and life skills of every student. It will never be boring.
