The Kenya Editors Guild has given the Government a 24-hour notice to lift the ban on live broadcasting, writes Samwell Kumba in the Nation.

The guild members said they would consider taking further action in the interest of the public’s right to information and freedom of expression if the Government did not yield to their call.

The notice started Wednesday at 11am.

The guild comprises editors, both past and current, drawn from across the media industry in Kenya.

The media organisations represented include the Nation Media Group, The Standard, Kiss, Kenya Times and the Media Institute.

The members said they had the option of going to court, mounting protests or using the Media Council to challenge the ban.

While taking cognizance of the current humanitarian crisis in the country coupled by widespread abuse of human rights, mistrust and intolerance, the editors say that the situation was worse than the Government wanted the public and the world to believe.
