The National Society for Human Rights says the cancellation of the ‘National Chat Show’ on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's National Radio is “undemocratic, unreasonable and unfair” as well as a politically motivated move to suppress the freedoms of expression and opinion, according to a report in The Namibian.

The rights body claims the NBC has bowed to pressure from some “intolerant” Swapo Party Youth League activists who want the national broadcaster to abandon all call-in programmes.

“The move also came after other politically motivated moves to control the national broadcaster. The recent summary and politically motivated dismissal of Bob Vezera Kandetu as the Director General and Ponhele ya France as Chairperson of NBC Board of Directors should be viewed against this background,” the NSHR said.
