The new pay-TV licence holders are furious about the SABC demanding payment for the use of its content on their space, writes Leseja Mokgata in The Times.


Five companies were awarded pay-television licences in September: On Digital Media, Telkom Media, Walking on Water, eSat and MultiChoice.

They made their ire known at hearings yesterday before the Independent Communication Authority on the “must-carry” licensing conditions that it is proposed should be imposed on them.

Not only does the SABC want the new licensees to be forced to carry its programming, it also wants to be paid for the use of its content.
