It has been widely reported that South Africa has a high unemployment rate amongst the youth – approaching the 35% mark in 2016. In an attempt to curb this, the government introduced the Youth Employment Tax Incentive for companies employing young people. Wits Professor and Economics expert, Prof. Jannie Rousow, says tax incentives increase the attractiveness of young people in the job market.
We also speak to Political Analyst, Dr Somadada Fikeni, who explains the role of trade unions in South Africa – and the link between politics and unions in reference to the tripartite alliance between the ANC, SACP and COSATU.
