Lindela Repatriation Center is a “place of waiting” for foreign nationals awaiting deportation. Human Rights organizations, legal services and university researchers have voiced concerns over human rights violations and ill treatment that detainees face at the hands of private security. Furthermore, the detainees who complain about the violence have been arrested on charges of damage to property which is an insidious erosion of basic human according to Lawyers For Human Rights.
Law Focus speaks to Attorney at Lawyers For Human Rights, Kayan Leung about the human rights violations and living conditions at Lindela. The Head of Legal Services at SAHRC, Mr Pandelis Gregoriou also weighs in on the discussion.
