Higher Education South Africa (HESA) is a national association that represents the interests of the South African public universities through its key roles of advocacy, strategic research and sector support services. HESA also encourages cooperation among universities and among partners with whom it shares interests.
Its Executive Office, comprising 54 staff members, is based in Pretoria. As a non-profit organisation, HESA is funded through membership fees and revenues from contract management services and donor agencies. Applications are therefore invited for the position of Programme Manager: Communications. This position presents an exceptional opportunity for qualifying professionals to join HESA and help it achieve its growth targets.
PROGRAMME MANAGER: COMMUNICATIONS
THREE-YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT
Remuneration package: Market- related salary package
The Programme Manager: Communications is responsible for setting the communication targets, as well as contributing to, and monitoring, their implementation. In particular, s/he will produce and disseminate materials for communicating information about HEAIDS Programme and its services; coordinate the content of the HEAIDS website and the production of a quarterly newsletter; disseminate HEAIDS reports and publications
Requirements: ● A Bachelor’s Degree in Communication or a related discipline but preferably a Honours or Master’s degree ● A minimum of 5 or more years experience in the field of communications with at least 3 years in the area of HIV/AIDS communications ●Strong planning, management, co-ordination and reporting skills ● Sound knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues in South Africa is a must together with a demonstrated understanding of the higher education and/or public health sector● Excellent written and verbal communication skills ● Editorial experience is desirable ● Experience in working on donor funded programmes is desirable ● Ability to work both independently and within a team is required ● Very good computer skills including knowledge on Website Content Management Systems ● Basic knowledge on managing social media ● Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders from various institutional arrangements ● Ability to adapt and manage conflict.
Responsibilities: ● Determination of the scope of HEAIDS annual reporting and within that context, co-ordination of inputs from HEAIDS programme/line management and compilation thereof into one coherent contribution to the HESA Annual Report ● Management of the HEAIDS website and production of the HEAIDS newsletter ● Implementation of stakeholder communication plan for HEAIDS ● Co-ordination of events, workshops/conferences and Launches including travelling to the events ● Manage the dissemination of HEAIDS publications and materials, including the management of design, layout, and printing of HEAIDS publications and materials ● Manage HEAIDS branding and marketing within the sector and stakeholders. ● Coordinate the implementation of a social media strategy.
