President Kgalema Motlanthe is expected this week to meet his legal
advisers to decide whether to send the Broadcasting Amendment Bill back
to Parliament for reconsideration, or sign it into law, writes Siyabonga Mkhwanazi in the Pretoria News.
Presidential spokesperson Thabo Masebe said on Monday Motlanthe needed to apply his mind properly and make sure that the proposed piece of legislation met all constitutional requirements before assenting to it.
When Motlanthe left the country last week he was still to decide on the bill, which ANC hardliners want passed to facilitate the sacking of the SABC board.
Chairperson of the National Assembly's Portfolio Committee on Communications Ismail Vadi (ANC) said he had received no notification from the Presidency on whether or not the bill would be referred back to Parliament.
