ANC MPs have shelved plans to unseat the SABC board until after the elections, writes Siyabonga Mkhwanazi in The Star.

The ANC study group on communications has decided to abandon asking party bosses to allow the National Assembly's communications committee to meet this week to discuss the board's dissolution.

The committee whip, ANC MP Kgotso Khumalo, said on Wednesday the ruling party's leadership had decided the matter should wait until after the fourth democratic parliament convenes after April's national and provincial elections.

The study group had written to ANC Chief Whip Nyami Booi asking that the communications committee be allowed to meet.

ANC spokesperson and national executive committee member Jessie Duarte said the issue of removing the public broadcaster's board would be discussed after the April 22 elections.

The move followed the resignation of SABC board deputy chairperson Christine Qunta last week.
