THE SABC board has appointed Ray Nkwe to act as its group executive for commercial enterprises, barely 12 hours after announcing the suspension of the incumbent, Gab Mampone, according to a report on City Press's website.

Spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said in a statement that Nkwe, who is the general manager of SABC1, will act in Mampone’s position until a probe into possible acts of serious misconduct by Mampone has been finalised.

The board said it reached its decision to suspend Mampone on the basis of information in its possession.

The information appeared to point to possible acts of serious misconduct by Mampone, both in his current position and during his period as acting group CEO between May 2008 and last December, the broadcaster said in a statement.
