An NGO working with a school group in Tembisa is looking for journalists who would spend just a little time on training and mentoring the group as they produce a school newspaper.

Why we exist? We are tired of living in the possibility of a prosperous Africa. We want to live in the reality of a prosperous Africa. We have an unwavering belief that engaging young people in a meaningful way is primary to making the transition.

How will we make the change? Identify motivated high school learners, create a space for deliberate practice then connect them to opportunities.

What we do? We offer an entrepreneurial leadership development programme called ‘Did I Just Do That’. Learners are recruited, and within an allocated time frame are (as a team) tasked with executing projects they’d ordinarily think impossible to do. The projects range from starting a school newspaper, creating mobile applications, building working model cars to hosting student produced film festivals, robotics, publish books, etc.

How you can get involved? We have partnered up with Ingqayizivele high school in Tembisa for the pilot. The students have started a school newspaper and published 2 issues.

We are looking for journalists that are able to commit to spending 2h30min, once a month to facilitate sessions on the importance of understanding media, how to conduct interviews and write articles, decision making with regards to publishing information that is relevant to your target market, etc.

The vision is to introduce the project to other schools in the Tembisa area, with the first task being the responsibility of starting a school newspaper.

Should you be interested in participating or have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
