Lawyers acting for Joost van der Westhuizen have demanded that Heat magazine remove comments on its website that the magazine claims were made by the former Springbok, writes Sashni Pather in The Times.

Van der Westhuizen made headlines when a sex and drugs video, featuring a man who bears a resemblance to him, surfaced last week. The video was screened for journalists by the magazine this week.

Van der Westhuizen has denied any involvement in the video. The Afrikaans comments made by a person using the alias “joostvdw” said: “A person is NOT GUILTY until he/she is PROVEN guilty. Your eyes are deceiving you because you want to believe the tabloid press. I am NOT GUILTY”.

The comments appeared to have been removed by last night.
