The position (20,5 working hours per week) is available from 01 November 2015. The employment contract will be for one year only, with the possibility of extension thereafter. Employment is subject to South African law and remuneration is customary to South African standards which is according to the Embassy’s salary scheme currently at R17.017,50
Main duties:
- Manage online presence for regional public diplomacy organization and German Embassy Pretoria
- designing and professionalizing embassy websites and GIC Africa site
- Developing GIC and embassy Facebook, Twitter channels – Prepare integrated weekly online content calendars
- Steer the development and implementation of PR strategy for on and offline outreach
- Manage content for websites, social media and pool of international freelancers working for GIC
- coordinate with various German and international actors
- Responsible for editing press releases, print media contributions and written promotional material for embassy
- Oversee development of marketing materials and promotional items for outreach activities
- Organizing and executing large public outreach programs
Requirements:
- Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or international relations, and a minimum of 5 years work experience. Advanced degrees a plus but not required
- Excellent proficiency in English (oral and written), proficiency in German would be an advantage
- Experience in international communications and public relations
- Experience in strategy development for on- and offline communication platforms
- Experience in the field of Journalism or other writing, editing and technical digital skills
- The applicant should have strong communication and organizational skills
- The applicant should be able to work in a team, cope with pressure
- work experience in other African countries would be an advantage but is not mandatory
