Brief Description
Voice of Wits is looking for a technical officer to join this innovative and award-winning campus radio station

Responsibilities:
The station provides a vehicle for communication among students and other members of the university community, and for skills development of volunteers and staff.   Reporting to the station manager, the technical officer will be responsible for ensuring professional high quality standards in the broadcasting activities of VoW and the effective development, maintenance and management of Vow’s technical resources.

Specifically, this includes:
• Maintaining and managing technical resources
• Management of content production
• Strategic planning around technical resources
• Co-ordinating a team of technical staff

Requirements:
• Knowledge of technical aspects of legal framework for broadcasting
• Knowledge of production techniques, procedures and standards
• Knowledge of production software and studio equipment (understanding of at least one editing software package and of studio equipment.)
• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and one other official language
• Excellent people skills
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Computer literacy (including in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, networking and production software)
• Time management

Education:
• Matric or a bachelors’ degree with a least one year’s experience in sound engineering, IT or management
• A qualification in sound engineering will be a strong recommendation.
