The Wits Centre for Journalism is pleased to welcome Tshegofatso Ngwako, a passionate Witsie who takes on the busy role of project assistant in supporting the Centre’s growing programmes and activities.
Tshegofatso holds a BA majoring in Media Studies & International Relations and a Bachelor of Laws, both obtained from Wits University, and was previously an administrative and financial assistant at the Wits Entrepreneurship Clinic.
“The Wits Centre for Journalism has a strong reputation for promoting quality journalism, media innovation, and public interest reporting,” says Tshegofatso. “I was drawn to the opportunity to contribute to an organisation that plays an important role in strengthening journalism and supporting media development. The Centre’s commitment to meaningful social impact aligns with my own interest in contributing to initiatives that make a positive difference in society.”
As a project assistant, Tshegofatso will provide administrative and project support to ensure the smooth delivery of the Centre’s programmes and activities across Africa.
“My role involves coordinating project activities, assisting with events and training programmes, supporting communication and stakeholder engagement, managing administrative processes, and helping ensure that projects are delivered efficiently and effectively,” she says.
“My experience in project and administrative support has taught me the importance of organisation, problem-solving, and building positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. I am excited to be part of a team that is shaping the future of journalism in South Africa and beyond. I look forward to supporting the Centre’s initiatives and contributing to its continued success.”
When she’s not wrangling supplier quotes, booking venues and orchestrating event plans, Tshegofatso can usually be found travelling, exploring new places, discovering good food and music, and spending quality time with family and friends.
“I’m always up for trying something new and creating memorable experiences,” she says.
