AFTER years of haggling with the SABC and etv to get their satirical puppet show ZNews aired, cartoonist Zapiro and producer Thierry Cassuto have ditched traditional networks in favour of the web, writes Lynnette Johns in the Cape Argus.
This week Zapiro – real name Jonathan Shapiro – and Cassuto will launch ZA News which will be shown via the web and be available for download on cellphones.
A range of life-size latex puppets depicting politicians like President Jacob Zuma, DA leader Helen Zille, former president Thabo Mbeki, ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema and US president Barack Obama have been created, and will be manipulated by puppeteers.
Shapiro and Cassuto expressed their excitement that a project 11 years in the making was finally being realised.
